“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness” ~ Genesis 1:26
I am not educated enough to fully explain or even understand the Trinity. It is a complex issue and I am not a scholar, however, I will try to give an easy explanation of this verse.
And any explanation I can give will come up short.
So, let us look at this verse in the original text.
כו וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים, נַעֲשֶׂה אָדָם בְּצַלְמֵנוּ כִּדְמוּתֵנוּ; וְיִרְדּוּ בִדְגַת הַיָּם וּבְעוֹף הַשָּׁמַיִם, וּבַבְּהֵמָה וּבְכָל-הָאָרֶץ, וּבְכָל-הָרֶמֶשׂ, הָרֹמֵשׂ עַל-הָאָרֶץ.
Yeah, I can’t read Hebrew either. So a translation is necessary.
This is Genesis 1:1

This is the same word used in Genesis 1:26
Now the word translated “God” in English is “Elohim”.
There are 2,570 occurrences of this word or form of this word found in scripture.
In fact, there are over 100 names for God found in scripture and each shows a different aspect of God.
Here is a link to the many names of God and their meanings:

God is a Triune God, Father, Son and Spirit.
A way of looking at it is this.
God created man in His image and His likeness [Gen. 1:26].
We can therefore know that we are the very image of God.
Man has a fleshly body. Man has a Soul and man has a spirit.
The fleshly body can be considered the form, the Soul the Life of the person and the Spirit his conscience, or his person, who he is. His being.
This is an over-simplification, believe me, but it is only given by me as a way of making it easy to grasp that which our minds cannot grasp.
This is just an simple introduction or explanation into this issue and I strongly recommend that a Christian research this issue on their own as it is a very weighty subject.
I am providing links to sources that should help in the study of this including Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance and an Old Testament Hebrew Lexicon Dictionary
