Thank goodness, it was only our freedom of speech and protest at risk

Thank goodness, it was only our freedom of speech and protest at risk. They never should’ve been arraigned on such charges. If they’d lost, I’d hate to image what trump would attempt next.
Of course, no one should destroy property for any reason, but this was a mass roundup meant to intimidate and prevent protests. Security cams would have identified the specific suspects.

Getting a little hyperbolic are we? First of all there was no riot. Secondly the court said that the prosecution failed to show evidence that these people were involved in the damage that was done.

Freedom of speech does not include rioting, destruction of property that doesn’t belong to you, and criminal acts. Now there are 200 defendants, and the ones who were let go were able to show that they were there in their capacity as medics and peacef…

Jeff Dick i read there was a riot …. and the defendants were charged with rioting if i read it right …. and then they were acquitted, so maybe there was not a riot, and maybe there was and they did not participate …. but my initial statement is still true ,,,, freedom of speech doesn’t mean freedom to riot

Karen Tully First, there must be some evidence that these particular individuals participated in anything other than peaceful assembly. And there was no evidence that they destroyed property or committed any act of rioting. If you are in a bank and the person in front of you robs the bank, that doesn’t make you guilty of bank robbery.

Chris Siemens Read some history. Plus this is a nation of laws. Kettling is a practice of simply rounding up everyone in the vicinity of a riot or demonstration and charging them with crimes. The state can’t convict these, those, they, or them. The state has to prove that a specific person did a specific crime. Mass trials are what dictators do
